Swamp P.D. — case geography · file PP-08-21-9420

The Map of the Pond

The whole frame job happened on one body of water. Cattail Cove where the twins hatched, the shell ponds where the checks were laundered, the reeds where the moonlight cleared him, the lockup where he sits now — and the far lily pad the boasts crackle in from. Tap a marker to open the file. Every pin is a place the case turns.

  1. Cattail CoveWhere one ribbon of eggs hatched two identical frogs — the honest twin and the one who wears his face across the water. Told apart at hatching only by a mother's fin-notch. The whole feud starts in these reeds.
  2. The Shell PondsThree shallow pools plumbed together like a nest of eels, where seventeen checks were signed with a tongue that was not his and the swamp-bucks vanished. The forgery's laundry line, strung right across the middle of the pond.
  3. The 3:47 AM ReedsThe loitering spot that turned into the alibi. At 3:47 AM — the exact hour of the alleged forgery — the night-watch heron's log places a lone honest frog here, two ponds away, just sitting in the reeds being decent.
  4. Lily-Pad Lockup — Cell Block CWhere a wholesome bog frog sits today for a signature that was never his. The cell over here has glass on the door; the far pad has none. Sign the petition, send a letter, keep his name in the record.
  5. The Reed CourthouseWhere twelve character witnesses take the stand — the forensic gnat, the recanting heron, the neighbor of fourteen seasons — each one corroborating an exhibit, pin for pin. The whole defense, sworn in.
  6. The Static Over the WaterOut in the middle of the pond, broadcasts crackle in at odd hours — same face, colder laugh, regretting nothing, and never, ever signed. The intercepts are logged here, smugness decrypted where possible.
  7. The Far Lily PadThe dry pad across the pond where the person of interest keeps a felt-topped card operation under a grate and answers to no glass. Named nowhere — because being unnamed is the only thing keeping him out of a cell.

Every marker on this map is sworn to a file already in the record. Coordinates approximate; the case is exact. Do not remove pins.
