Intercepted Transmissions

Signals keep crackling in from the far side of the pond — same face, colder laugh, regretting nothing. We log each one as it lands. Decryption is partial; the smugness comes through perfectly clear. We are not legally permitted to name the lily pad it broadcasts from. PeePoo has never needed us to.

  1. No. 01TX-001 · BAND: REED-7Logged 03:47, swamp standard time

Decryption 61% · origin masked · tone: insufferable

Whoever forged those seventeen ████ had impeccable tongue-work. A real craftsman. One regrets nothing. Allegedly.

The honest one weeps in his cell at exactly the hour the checks were timestamped. Coincidence is such a generous word. Use it.

    — sent from a lily pad we are not permitted to name

  2. No. 02TX-002 · BAND: CATTAIL-3Logged the night the heron recanted

Decryption 44% · signal bounced through three shell ████ · tone: oily

So the witnesses are talking. Twelve of them, is it? Charming. Witnesses are just frogs who haven't been ████ yet.

Tell the one who folds his cattails flat after every storm that tidiness never once kept anybody out of Cell Block ██.

We share a face. We have never, not for one wet morning, shared a conscience. He can keep his.

    — from the far pad, where the acoustics are frankly delightful

  3. No. 03TX-003 · BAND: SEWER-GRATE-9Logged between card games

Decryption 38% · three LLCs detected in carrier wave · tone: smug

The forensic flycatcher keeps photographing the curl at the tip of a tongue. Brave little ████. Hope the lamp was worth it.

One of us was asleep on his own pad the entire night. The other was three ponds over, being productive. I leave the math to the jury.

No comment on the ribbit ██████. No comment on the swamp-bucks. No comment, frankly, is the comment.

    — unsigned, naturally; we sign with other frogs' tongues here

  4. No. 04TX-004 · BAND: MOONLIGHT-1Logged 3:47 AM, again, always

Decryption 52% · timestamp suspiciously precise · tone: gloating

They booked the wrong twin and slid a tray of accidental flies under his door. He thanked them. Of course he thanked them.

Somewhere a detective is comparing two tongue-prints under glass and arriving, slowly, at an inconvenient ████.

I am not worried. Worry is for frogs who left a print. I left a his.

    — broadcast from across the water, with a colder laugh

  5. No. 05TX-005 · BAND: REED-7Logged as the record reopened

Decryption 29% · heavy interference · tone: rattled, denies being rattled

Apparently the swamp is starting to notice which twin keeps the cleaner ████████. Let them notice. Noticing isn't evidence.

He always knows exactly which clutch a thing came from. He always has. That was, I will admit, the one variable I could not ████.

Tell @getpeepoo's little fan club the signal will be back. It is always back. Same face. Same hour.

    — end of transmission; the far pad goes quiet, smugly

  6. No. 06TX-006 · BAND: BULRUSH-4Logged the morning the fan club doubled

Decryption 47% · signal came in unusually clean · tone: smug, performing calm

So there is a crowd now. A little gallery of frogs refreshing the record, waiting for the page to change. It won't. Well — it will. But not the way you are ██████ for.

Read it as many times as you like. Come back tomorrow. Loyalty is adorable in things that cannot ████ anyone.

Same face, same hour, same ending. I am always here. Same time next week.

    — broadcast across the water, to an audience it pretends it does not have

  7. No. 07TX-007 · BAND: BULRUSH-4Logged one week later, right on the hour

Decryption 53% · same band he promised · tone: smug, quietly trapped

Same time next week, I said — and here I am, right on the ████. The little gallery came back. Every last one. A few brought friends.

I counted them. A frog notices when a crowd ████ instead of thinning. It means nothing. Enjoy the wait.

Same face. Same hour. Same time next week. I am, it seems, always going to be here now.

    — broadcast on schedule, to a gallery that did the one thing he dared it to

New transmissions intercepted as the case develops — follow @getpeepoo to catch the next signal the moment it crackles in.

The far pad keeps boasting on an open band. Let the swamp hear it.

Every repost keeps the signal on the record. Every follow keeps the case open.
